services; U.S. and local government agencies; local commercial interests and
international petroleum exploration companies in Thailand, Malaysia, Burma,
Indonesia, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Offshore. Responsible for the following
projects: Setup and test of ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network edge
switches. The ATM switches were connected to Unix servers via 155 Mb/s optical
carrier level 3 (OC-3) ATM interfaces and Microsoft Windows PC clients using either
ATM Forum 25.6 Mb/s or Ethernet 10/100 BaseT NICs (Network Interface Cards).
One of the Ethernet clients was a Jupiter High Resolution Display Wall Controller.
Images were sent via the ATM switches from the various clients and the Unix servers
to the High Resolution Display Engineering, installation and maintenance on a large
petroleum production communications network, consisting of TDMA Microwave
Radio systems, Digital Microwave systems, X.25/X.28 Switching Statistical
Multiplexers, SNA/SDLC Asynch Protocol converter, IBM-PC/AT, DEC, IBM and
Extel terminals, PCM Multiplexers, Electronic Stored Program Control PABXs, UHF,
VHF, and HF/SSB radios, Telex and Facsimile equipment. Engineering and
installation of complete petroleum exploration communications package of VHF/FM,
VHF/AM, HF/SSB, LF/NDB systems plus Telex and Facsimile equipment for nine
major oil companies. Installation of complete offshore production communication
networks, including TDMA Microwave Radio systems, SCADA Systems, PABXs,
Satellite earth station interface equipment and UHF/SHF links for SCADA, Telex,
Telephone, Facsimile and Speech Plus traffic. Installation and testing of multihop
microwave systems carrying video & audio programs for rebroadcast in Thailand and
Indonesia. Installation and testing of microwave links carrying multichannel voice
traffic and high speed computer data. Site surveys and path calculations in Burma and
Thailand for multihop microwave systems carrying television and voice traffic;
System calculations and surveys for several UHF Diffraction and Troposcatter radio
links. Software development using assembly and C language programming for
microcomputer operating systems, utility programs and programs for
telecommunications systems analysis. Modification and overhaul of 15 and 30 KW
solid state Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS). Installation and checkout of
programmable controller systems for local industrial projects. Avionics and Marine
electronics equipment installation and maintenance, and various systems training
programs.

Pakistan Microwave Project: Dacca, East Pakistan (Bangladesh). Participated in on-
site consulting and acceptance testing of a ten hop Lenkurt 75B microwave system.
1970 Alexandria, Va. Laboratories. Projects included Classified studies involving
passive countermeasures; Proposal efforts for a phase locked ADF system and a VHF
mine detector; Research on automatic vehicle monitoring for police applications, and
research on nonlinear radar signature techniques.
ASSISTANT PROJECT ENGINEER 1965 – 1970
For the Tropical Radio Propagation Research Program; Bangkok, Thailand. Projects
included extensive research in the jungles of Southeast Asia on ground to ground and
air to ground tactical communications from LF to SHF; Knife edge diffraction
measurements over heavily forested obstacles on short range transmission paths at
UHF through SHF, and wideband studies at VHF in a jungle multipath environment.
The latter includes determination of the complex transfer functions and correlation
bandwidths of jungle radio channels by using pulse response and swept frequency
techniques. Responsible for detailed planning, scheduling and performing of tests;
preliminary data analysis; calibration and maintenance of equipment, and supervision
of test site personnel.
